Definition: Web Service Agent

By Jack Krupansky

A web service agent is a software agent designed to access web services.

Synonym for web service software agent.

Synonym for web services agent.

Synonym for requester agent.

Note: I am making a subtle distinction here between the W3C concept of a web services agent which includes the concept of a provider agent at the same conceptual level as a requestor agent.  Although there should be a rough symmetry between the two sides of an interaction, unfortunately most services will be implemented in an asymmetric and less flexible manner.  Typically the software implementing a web service is immobile and resident on a server, whereas requester agents can be mobile and reside on client-side computer systems.

Singular of web service agents.
