Definition: Semantic Grid

By Jack Krupansky

The semantic grid is a layering of the concept of the Semantic Web on the concept of grid computing, including ontologies, annotations, and negotiation processes to enable effective, open, distributed, knowledge-based solutions able to deal with knowledge and data sources that are distributed, heterogeneous, and dynamic, especially where implicit or tacit knowledge is a necessary component of the overall computing environment.

We can say that a semantic grid is a semantic-based computational network infrastructure.

See the Wikipedia article on "Semantic Grid".
