A distributed virtual personal computer (DVPC) is the virtualization of the file system of a traditional personal computer so that the user's data is completely cached on the user's personal computer, but maintained in a distributed form on multiple network servers, providing both vendor-diversity and geographic diversity as well as backup and archiving. DVPC also provides "smart versioning" so that mistakes and previous versions of data can be readily accessed at all times.
